Adamdighi UNO transferred over goat scandal

In an aftermath of the much-criticised goat scandal, Seema Sharmin, the upazila nirbahi officer of Bogura's Adamdighi, has been withdrawn and transferred to the Local Government Division.

The UNO drew much criticism after she had fined a goat Tk2,000 for destroying and eating up some flowering trees planted on her office premises several weeks ago.

Ziaul Haque, deputy commissioner of Bogura, confirmed her transfer, saying they received a letter in this regard on Tuesday.

"The UNO has been transferred to the Local Government Division. A letter regarding her transfer came on Tuesday. It can be called regular transfer," said the DC.

On 17 May, UNO Seema Sharmin detained the goat and fined it.

When the goat owner Sahara Khatun went there to fetch her animal, she was asked to pay the fine first.

Being failed to pay the fine, the poor woman requested to let the animal go but the UNO turned a deaf ear to it.

Nine days later, the goat was sold out without informing its owner to realise the fine.

Soon after the incident, the news went viral and drew a huge public outcry on social media platforms.

In the face of incessant criticism, the UNO retreated from her stance and returned the fine to the goat owners of her own.

Speaking in favour of her stance, UNO Seema Sharmin told media that the goat had been eating up the flowering trees despite repeated warning to its owner.

As the woman paid no heed to the warning, the goat was fined Tk2,000 through mobile court.

However, she spurned the allegation of selling out goat. Rather, she claimed that the animal was kept in someone's custody.
