ACC, TIB sign deal to prevent corruption
Under the MoU, ACC and TIB will collaborate on raising public awareness, promoting ethical standards, improving procedures, providing guidance, running campaigns, and jointly conducting research and training
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) have signed a five-year memorandum of understanding to strengthen and accelerate anti-corruption efforts.
The MoU was signed today (24 September) by ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain and TIB Executive Director Iftekharul Zaman at the ACC headquarters.
Under the MoU, ACC and TIB will collaborate on raising public awareness, promoting ethical standards, improving procedures, providing guidance, running campaigns, and jointly conducting research and training.
ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Commissioner (Investigation) Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid, Secretary Md Khaled Rahim and senior officials from both ACC and TIB attended the event.
Earlier, ACC and TIB signed four MoUs: a two-year MoU on 25 May 2015, a two-year-four-month MoU on 5 June 2017, a three-year MoU on 7 October 2019, and another three-year MoU on 28 September 2022. The fifth five-year MoU will run from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2030.
Verdicts in Purbachal cases expected soon: ACC chairman
Responding to journalists at the same event, ACC Chairman Abdul Momen said verdicts in six corruption cases against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family over the Purbachal New Town Project are expected by late October or November.
He added the ACC is taking steps to revive the Gulsan case against Hasina's niece, British MP Tulip Siddiq, and stressed that the ACC must first cleanse itself of corruption to maintain moral authority.
