Nine members of a family, including women and children, sustained burn injuries after a gas explosion at a house in the Hirajhil area under Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj.
The incident took place around 3am yesterday (22 August). Two fire service units from Kanchpur and Adamjee EPZ rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control.
The victims were identified as Asma Begum, 35, Tanzil Islam, 40, Tisha, 17, Arafat, 15, Hasan, 35, Muntaha, 11, Jannat, 4, Imam Uddin, 1 month-old and Salma Begum, 32.
Adamjee Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Miran Mia said, "We rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information. On arrival we found that the injured had already been taken to different hospitals. Later we extinguished the fire. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze."
They were first taken to a local private hospital and later shifted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge Md Monir Hossain confirmed the matter and said the nine injured were admitted to the burn institute.
According to doctors, Hasan suffered burns on 44% of his body, Jannat 40%, Muntaha 37%, Salma 48%, infant Imam 30%, Arafat 15%, Tisha 53% and Asma 48%.
