4 family members burned in a gas line explosion in Cumilla
The injured were taken to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 6am in a burnt condition.
Four members of a family, including a woman and a child, suffered burn injuries after a gas line leak triggered an explosion in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla early this morning (24 February).
The injured are Monowara Begum, 60, Ziaul Haque, 37, Umme Humayra, 30, and two-year-old Hurram.
They were taken to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 6am in a burnt condition.
Residential Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said, "Four members of the same family, including a woman and a child, were brought to the emergency department around 6am from Daudkandi in Cumilla."
He added that Monowara sustained 2% burns, Ziaul 54%, Humayra 65%, and the child 6%.
"Ziaul Haque and Humayra are in critical condition as they sustained severe burns," he said.
The explosion also damaged iron window grilles and walls, leaving the ground floor of the three-storey residential building in ruins.
Ershad Hossain, inspector of Daudkandi Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the blast occurred around 4:30am on the ground floor of a three-storey residential building in the Boldakhal area due to leakage from a gas line.
He said the injured were taken to Dhaka for treatment, adding that other residents of the building remained safe.
