82 gold bars seized at Chattogram airport

Customs officials and National Security Intelligence (NSI) jointly have recovered 82 gold bars form a passenger at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday morning.
The passenger identified as Mohammad Anmul Haque, was travelling from Dubai to Chattogram in a flight of national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines. He is from Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar district.
"The passenger strapped the gold bars to his belly. On information, we recovered the gold bars when he landed at the airport at around 7:30am," said an NSI official.
"The gold bars weigh more than 9.59 kg worth Tk5.74 crore," said Roksana Khatun, deputy commissioner of airport and airfreight department of Chattogram Customs.
"We are preparing to take legal action against the passenger according to Customs law," she added.
