5 abductees rescued from remote Teknaf hills using drones
They were abducted by a gang of armed bandits from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw en route from Teknar’s Whykong Bazar to Baharchhara last Tuesday

Five individuals, including a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, were rescued from deep within the hills of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar last night (5 June), two days after being abducted at gunpoint.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)–15 carried out the rescue operation using drones.
The abductees were identified as Md Shamsul Alam, 35; Mohammad Zubair, 35; Ali Johar, 50; Nazim Ullah, 20; and Mohammad Selim, 26. All of them are residents of the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya.
They were rescued around 9pm from the remote hills between Whykong and Shamlapur, confirmed Major Md Nazmul Islam, company commander of RAB-15, CPC-2, Whykong.
"On Tuesday (3 June), a gang of armed bandits intercepted a CNG-run auto-rickshaw en route from Whykong Bazar to Baharchhara around noon. The gang abducted all five occupants, including the driver, and took them deep into the nearby forested hills," said Major Nazmul.
"Upon receiving the report, we launched a two-day search operation with the help of police, the forest department, and drone surveillance. We were able to locate and rescue all five victims last night. The money taken from their wallets was also recovered," he added.
Nazmul further said the Whykong-Shamlapur route is known for frequent criminal activity, particularly abduction incidents.
"Some local and Rohingya criminal groups are involved in these abductions. We are actively working to bring them under the law," he added.
