4 of a family among 7 killed as bus hits auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh
Police said a Dhaka-bound bus of Rajib Paribahan from Jamalpur hit an auto-rickshaw heading for Muktagacha in the Gandrapa area of Akua Bypass Road around 1:15pm.
Four members of a family were among seven people killed when a Dhaka-bound bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh city this afternoon (2 October).
The accident occurred around 1:15pm in the Gandrapa area in front of Bangladesh Bank on Akua Bypass Road, Mohammad Shibirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, told The Business Standard.
The four family members were identified as Mofazzal Hossain, 50; his mother Rashida Begum, 70; his daughter Marjina, 25; and Marjina's five-year-old son Minan. All were residents of Dari Hamidpur village in the Nandina area of Jamalpur Sadar and were travelling to Gazipur, police said.
The other three victims were auto-rickshaw driver Suruj Ali, 44, and passengers Akram Ali, 51, and his wife Momtaz Begum, 45. All three were from Jamalpur Sadar.
According to locals, the bus, operated by Rajib Paribahan, was travelling from Jamalpur towards Dhaka when it collided with the auto-rickshaw, which was heading towards Muktagacha.
The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled in the collision, killing all seven people inside, the OC said.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Shibirul added.
The bus has been seized, but its driver and helper could not be detained immediately. Police are trying to arrest them, the OC said.
