4 cops closed over assault on journalists, students at Suhrawardy Udyan

Four police personnel have been withdrawn from duty following allegations of assaulting students and on-duty journalists during an anti-narcotics drive at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Ramna division) Md Masud Alam confirmed the matter to The Business Standard this evening (24 February).
"The four officers involved in the incident have been closed, and departmental action will be taken against them. Efforts are underway to identify two to three more personnel involved, and action will also be taken against them," he said.
Last night, police conducted an anti-drug operation at Suhrawardy Udyan under the leadership of DC Masud Alam.
During the drive, several police members allegedly harassed and assaulted students and journalists. Multiple videos of the incident later went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism.
This afternoon, students of the University of Dhaka staged a protest in front of Shahbagh Police Station, demanding the removal of DC Masud Alam.
