3 leaders of banned Awami League held with arms, crude bombs in Chattogram
Captain Sheikh Abrar Faiyaz, commander of the Boalkhali army camp, said the operation was conducted based on intelligence that a group of people was planning subversive activities at a farmhouse in the Jamtala area.
The army detained three leaders of the banned Awami League along with firearms and explosives during a raid at the Jamtala area in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday (12 November).
The detainees are Nurul Amin, 46, son of late Nurul Islam of Paschim Kadhurkhil; Mohammad Abu Naser Jilani, 52, son of late Abdul Aziz; and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, 42, son of Md Jamal.
According to police, Nurul Amin is a leader of the Jubo League, while Abu Naser Jilani and Shahadat Hossain are active members of the Awami League.
Md Lutfor Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalkhali Police Station, said, "The army handed over the detainees to the police. We recovered four live cocktails [crude bomb], a locally-made gun, one fresh cartridge, a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and Tk89,028 in cash from their possession."
A case is being filed, and legal action is underway, he added.

He added that detained Nurul Amin has a history of involvement in armed activities, including allegations of using firearms to occupy polling centres during national elections, extortion, land grabbing, and a 2015 armed attack and takeover of the "Soukhin City Market" in Chowdhuryhat.
