CMP lifts rally ban in Ctg's GEC-Tigerpass area; graffiti programmes resume
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) today (18 May) lifted its ban on rallies and public gatherings from GEC to the Tigerpass area in the city.
A notice, signed by Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, said the CMP had imposed the restriction on all kinds of rallies and gatherings in the area. However, the order was withdrawn around 7pm today in the public interest.
Earlier, the CMP had imposed restrictions in the city's key areas to avoid any untoward incidents in light of tensions erupting between leaders and activists of the National Citizens Party and BNP over allegations of erasing the July Uprising graffiti.
Meanwhile, City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain inaugurated a July graffiti programme at the corporation's main gate.
At the same time, the Chattogram unit of NCP announced a graffiti programme in the Tigerpass area.
Leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad were also seen painting graffiti in the Tigerpass area in the evening after discussions with the mayor.
