3 lakh Ansar, enough law enforcers to ensure security at 33,000 mandaps during Durga Puja: Home adviser
For added safety, a special mobile application has been launched to verify incidents and ensure timely response
Around 300,000 Ansar members, as well as police and other law enforcement agencies, will be deployed at 33,000 puja mandaps during the Durga Puja nationwide, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The law enforcement agencies have made full preparations to ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully, he assured while speaking to media after a meeting on security and law and order ahead of the Sharadiya Durga Puja, held at the Secretariat today (8 September).
The Home Affairs adviser also mentioned that members of the Hindu community have not expressed any concerns or fears regarding the upcoming celebrations.
According to him, alongside law enforcement agencies, local puja committees will take security measures on their own initiative as well, ensuring round-the-clock safety at the mandaps.
He further said that no fairs will be allowed to be organised around the puja mandaps this year, as such gatherings often give rise to drug and alcohol-related activities. However, after discussions with the committees, one or two small stalls may be permitted if necessary.
For added safety, a special mobile application has been launched to verify incidents and ensure timely response.
He also stated that all parties have agreed to complete the immersion of idols by 7pm.
