3 children found dead in Cox’s Bazar canal hours after going missing
Police say preliminary investigations suggest the children drowned while playing near the water but they are conducting further inquiries

The bodies of three children were found in a canal six hours after they went missing while playing in Eidgaon, Cox's Bazar yesterday evening (24 March).
The deceased were identified as Ria Moni, 10, daughter of Yusuf Nabi; Mariam Begum, 9, daughter of Manjur Alam; and Taslima Akter, 9, daughter of Jafar Alam. All were residents of Purbo Baharchhara in Jalalabad Union and neighbours.
Confirming the incident, Eidgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mashiur Rahman said the children left home around 1:30pm on Monday to play with other kids from the neighbourhood. However, when they did not return home by the evening, their families started searching for them.
"At one point, just before 7pm, family members spotted one of the children's bodies floating in the local canal. As they attempted to recover the body, they discovered the other two children also floating lifelessly," OC Mashiur said.
The grieving families retrieved the bodies and brought them home.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that the children drowned while playing near the water. However, we are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact circumstances of their deaths," the OC added.
The bodies of the deceased children remain at their respective homes.
