Two earth-cutting workers were critically injured when bomb exploded while they were digging soil in Sharsha upazila of Jashore this morning (4 February).
The injured were identified as Abdul Kader, 45, son of Nizzak and Zakir Hossain, 48, son of Abdul Barik of the village.
The explosion occurred in the morning when the bomb, which was buried about one and half feet deep under the earth, exploded with a big bang after being struck by a hoe, leaving them injured.
Later, they were taken to 250-bed Jashore General Hospital. Among them, Zakir's condition was stated to be critical.
Maruf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station, said initially it is suspected that the bomb had been buried underground for a long time.
However, police are investigating whether this was part of any planned act of sabotage.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
