Trader hacked to death in Jashore over shop rental dispute
The victim, Anisur Rahman, 55, breathed his last in the early hours of today while being moved to Dhaka for advanced treatment
A prominent businessperson was hacked to death in Jashore's Abhaynagar Upazila following a dispute over renting out a shop space.
The victim, Anisur Rahman, 55, breathed his last in the early hours of today (7 May) while being moved to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Anisur, a resident of the Guakhola area in Noapara municipality, was the owner of "Joint Trading", a local importing firm.
He also owned a multi-storey market named "Anis Plaza" in the Noapara Bazaar area.
According to local sources, the attack was triggered by Anisur's refusal to rent a shop in his market to Shah Mahamud, son of Shah Junaid from the Pir Bari area.
Enraged by the refusal, Mahamud allegedly intercepted Anisur in front of his residence at around 7pm yesterday and hacked him indiscriminately.
Critically injured, Anisur was first rushed to the Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex by locals and later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
He died around dawn today while being transported from Khulna to a hospital in Dhaka.
Md Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, stated that the body has been sent to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
He added that the suspect, Shah Mahamud, is currently absconding since the incident, and operations are underway to apprehend him.
The news of the murder sparked widespread grief and outrage in the locality.
The Noapara Importers and Bazaar Business Association has announced a strike, shutting down all business establishments at the Noapara River Port to demand justice for the killing.
