2, including Sierra Leonean national, killed as covered van rear-ends motorcycle in Banani

Two motorcycle riders, including a Sierra Leonean national, were killed on the spot after a covered van rear-ended their motorcycle in the Amtoli area under Dhaka's Banani Police Station last night (25 September).
The accident occurred around 11:15pm on the west side of the Amtoli intersection at Mohakhali, police said today (26 September).
Police identified the deceased as ridesharing motorcyclist Khaled Saifullah, 38, of Noakhali's Sonaimuri, and Michael, a citizen of Sierra Leone, Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Tarek told The Business Standard.

Michael, whose last name could not be known immediately, worked at Canadian Trillinium International School in Malibagh. His visa had expired, and he bid farewell to his school yesterday. He was scheduled to leave the country for home today, said Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salahuddin.
However, he died after being run over by a covered van while returning from school using a ride-sharing service, said the OC.
The bodies of both the deceased have been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies. Police are also taking steps to inform the relevant embassy about Michael's death, said SI Tarek.
Police have applied to the relevant authorities to preserve Michael's body in the freezer after the autopsy until it is decided what to do with his remains. A case has been filed under the Road Transport Act, Salahuddin added.
Police said the two men on the motorbike were crossing the Amtoli intersection when the covered van hit them from behind. Both sustained critical injuries and passed away at the scene.
The covered van and its driver fled the scene after the accident, but police are working to seize the vehicle and arrest the driver, said OC Salahuddin.
