Zenzo: Refined Pan-Asian flavours in everyday dining
Zenzo does not attempt to reinvent Pan-Asian cuisine, but rather focuses on executing familiar dishes with care while keeping prices within reach
In Banani, Dhaka's dining scene continues to evolve. Zenzo is a refined yet accessible Pan-Asian destination. It builds its identity on the balance between elegance and affordability.
Step inside, and the ambience immediately sets the tone. Green-toned walls paired with soft golden lighting create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The space feels clean, comfortable, and deliberately designed for versatility that is equally suited for family dinners, casual meetings, or small celebrations.
In a city where new restaurants frequently compete for attention, Zenzo distinguishes itself through quiet confidence. While there are areas for refinement, particularly in dishes like the ramen, it delivers where it matters most.
Lively music in the background, adding energy without overwhelming conversation. Service is prompt, and the staff remain attentive and helpful throughout.
"From the beginning, we wanted Zenzo to feel welcoming but still refined," said the restaurant's manager. "Pan-Asian cuisine can sometimes feel exclusive. We wanted to break that perception, offering quality food that is accessible without compromising on experience."
Assorted Appetiser Platter
The meal begins with the Assorted Appetiser Platter. It includes Chicken Nan Ban, Crab and Cream Cheese Rangoon, and Prawn Tempura, two pieces of each.
The Chicken Nan Ban stands out for its crunch and balance. Lightly spiced and well-cooked, they pair well with the accompanying mayonnaise, offering a mild and approachable flavour. The Crab and Cream Cheese Rangoon delivers a generous mix of filling, though there is a slightly raw note in the taste that may not appeal to everyone. Still, the crunch remains satisfying.
The Prawn Tempura is also crisp and competently prepared, though it could benefit from a touch more salt. A distinct aroma is present, but it does not significantly affect the overall experience. As a starter, the platter works, varied, textured, and largely enjoyable.

Beef Ramen
The Beef Ramen arrives as a hearty, filling option. Notably generous with its portions, the dish offers more beef than one might expect. The broth carries a mild spice with a hint of tang, complemented by mushrooms and a properly boiled egg.
The noodles are a highlight, thick, firm, and cooked just right, avoiding sogginess. However, the broth does not fully match the promise of the rest of the dish. There is a slightly artificial taste that takes away from what could have been a deeply comforting bowl. It remains enjoyable, but there is clear room for improvement.

Roasted Beef Cumin Leeks
This is, without question, the standout dish on the menu. The Roasted Beef Cumin Leeks deliver a rich combination of spice, tanginess, and aromatic masala that defines Zenzo's strengths.
The beef strikes a careful balance, chewy yet tender, flavourful yet not overwhelming. While the dish leans slightly on the dry side, it is elevated by the accompanying sauce, which ties the flavours together. The portion is sufficient for one person, making it an ideal main. It is the kind of dish that leaves a lasting impression and invites a return visit.

Steamed Whole Fish with Chilli and Garlic Sauce
For those who enjoy bold, fiery flavours, the Steamed Whole Fish is a centrepiece. Served whole, it offers both visual appeal and generous portioning.
The fish itself is soft and well-steamed, but it is the sauce that defines the dish. Spicy, tangy, and intense, it delivers a strong kick that lingers. Lemon notes dominate, cutting through the heat while enhancing the overall profile. Even the garnishing carries a punch. It is not a subtle dish, but for spice lovers, it is deeply satisfying.

Mango Smoothie
The Mango Smoothie serves as a refreshing counterpoint to the heavier dishes. Thick and substantial, it blends mango with a hint of vanilla, resulting in a drink that is balanced rather than overly sweet.
It feels almost like a dessert in itself, rich, smooth, and filling. As an accompaniment, it works well to calm the palate, especially after the more intense dishes.

Brownie with Ice Cream
The meal concludes with a Brownie with Ice Cream, a simple but effective ending. The brownie is dense and not overly sweet, allowing the ice cream to take centre stage.
Butterscotch ice cream is recommended, as its caramel notes complement the brownie's richness. It is a straightforward dessert, but one that provides a satisfying close to the meal.
