2 earthquake jolts Sylhet within five minutes
The first tremor was recorded at 2:50am, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. Moments later, at 2:55am, a second quake of magnitude 3.3 shook the region
Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts experienced two mild earthquakes just five minutes apart in the early hours today (11 December), though no damage was reported.
According to data published on the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) website, the first tremor was recorded at 2:50am, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. Moments later, at 2:55am, a second quake of magnitude 3.3 shook the region.
Assistant meteorologist at the BMD Farzana Sultana said the epicentre of the first quake was located in Beanibazar of Sylhet, while the second originated near Barlekha in Moulvibazar.
Given the low intensity, the quakes caused no reported casualties or structural damage. Many residents, especially those asleep, did not feel the tremors at all.
However, the recurrence of mild quakes in recent times has heightened public anxiety.
