179 candidates finalised for Jucsu polls
Earlier, the Jucsu Election Commission had released a draft list of 276 candidates for the central body. Of them, 92 withdrew their candidacies, while 20 nominations were rejected.
A total of 179 candidates have been finalised to contest in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) election, while 440 candidates will compete for hall union positions, including 316 male and 124 female students.
The final list of candidates was published today (29 August) at the university's Senate Building.
Earlier, the Jucsu Election Commission had released a draft list of 276 candidates for the central body. Of them, 92 withdrew their candidacies, while 20 nominations were rejected.
However, 15 students managed to regain their candidature through the appeals process.
In the central body, 10 candidates will vie for the post of vice-president (VP), though no female candidate is contesting for this position.
For the post of general secretary (GS), nine candidates will compete, including two women.
For assistant general secretary, 10 male candidates and six female candidates are in the race.
Nine candidates will contest for the education and research secretary post, while six will compete for the environment and nature conservation secretary.
Eight candidates each will vie for the positions of literature and publications secretary, cultural secretary, and assistant cultural secretary, while five candidates are running for drama secretary.
For the sports secretary post, three candidates are competing, while six female and six male candidates will contest for the two assistant sports secretary positions.
Seven candidates each are in the fray for the IT and library secretary, health and food security secretary, and transport and communication secretary positions.
Eight candidates are contesting for the social welfare and human resource development secretary, while seven male and seven female candidates are running for the assistant positions under the same category.
Meanwhile, 16 candidates will contest for the post of executive member (female), while 26 candidates will vie for executive member (male).
