15 injured in Brahmanbaria clash over football match
Following the incident, residents of both villages, armed with spears, sticks, and other local weapons, engaged in a violent clash in a nearby paddy field
At least 15 people were reportedly injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a football match in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria today (7 November).
The clash broke out in the afternoon between residents of Dakshin Arifil and Fakirhati villages under the upazila, police said.
According to locals and police, children and teenagers from Dakshin Arifil and Fakirhati villages were playing football at a field in Fakirhati village. During the game, a boy from Fakirhati allegedly beat up Mamun, son of Tara Mia from Dakshin Arifil.
Following the incident, residents of both villages, armed with spears, sticks, and other local weapons, engaged in a violent clash in a nearby paddy field.
The fight involved throwing bricks and stones, as well as chase and counter-chase.
Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam said, "We rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent further clashes. Legal action is underway."
"The identities of the injured could not be confirmed immediately. They are currently receiving treatment locally," OC Morshedul added.
