The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested 102 individuals linked to teenage gangs during an operation in the Adabor police station area.
This operation was launched after a police officer was seriously injured in an attack by teenage gang members late last night (1 September).
All the arrested individuals are members of several teenage gangs, said SM Zakaria, officer-in-charge of Adabor police station, adding that legal procedures are underway and they will be produced before the court.
According to police, a team from Adabor police came under attack around 11pm in the Sunibir Housing area while conducting an operation in a garage. Local teenage gang leaders identified as Joni and Rony led the attack, which left police constable Al Amin seriously injured.
Following the incident, the police started an all-out operation against teenage gangs in the area. During the wee-hours' drive, over 100 individuals were arrested.
"Constable Al Amin is still in the hospital," said SM Zakaria. "A case was filed over the attack on the police," he added.
