1 arrested with foreign pistol, ammunition in Mirpur raid
According to RAB, preliminary questioning revealed that the accused used the recovered weapons to carry out various criminal activities in Mirpur, Kafrul, Darus Salam and surrounding areas of the capital
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 arrested a man along with a foreign-made firearm and ammunition during a raid in the Mirpur area of the capital last night (7 December).
The arrestee has been identified as Md Mahmudur Rahman Khan, also known as Sony, 46.
The operation was carried out at a house in the Senpara area under Kafrul Police Station on Wednesday. During the raid, RAB recovered an illegal foreign pistol, six rounds of live ammunition, one empty cartridge and a locally made weapon from his possession.
The arrest was confirmed by RAB-4 Media Officer Additional Superintendent of Police K N Rai Niyoti.
He said a RAB-4 operational team conducted the raid based on specific intelligence information.
"When the team raided a house in the Senpara area under Kafrul Police Station, the house owner, Md Mahmudur Rahman Khan alias Sony, attempted to flee. He was arrested at the spot," he said.
During initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to possessing illegal weapons.
"Following his information, a search of the house led to the recovery of an illegal foreign pistol, six rounds of live ammunition, one empty cartridge and one locally made weapon," the RAB official added.
According to RAB, preliminary questioning revealed that the accused used the recovered weapons to carry out various criminal activities in Mirpur, Kafrul, Darus Salam and surrounding areas of the capital. He also allegedly rented out the weapons to professional criminals, who used them for murder, extortion, intimidation and other criminal and terrorist activities.
The arrested man has been handed over to the concerned police station for legal action, the RAB-4 official said.
