Terrible future awaits Tarique if 'gang' elements within his party not controlled: AB Party's Fuaad
He congratulated Tarique on the BNP’s election win but cautioned that internal issues could undermine his leadership
A terrible future is waiting for BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman if he fails to control "gang elements" within his party, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, general secretary of the Amar Bangladesh Party and the candidate of the 11-party alliance for Barishal-3, has said.
"If the neo-Awami fascism that has reared its head within the BNP is not brought under control, Tarique Rahman's downfall will be more tragic than that of the Awami League," he said while speaking at a press conference at the Barishal Press Club today (15 February).
He congratulated Tarique on the BNP's election win but cautioned that internal issues could undermine his leadership.
Fuaad, who lost the election, said he wants to see the implementation of Tarique Rahman's 31-point reform agenda in practice rather than merely on paper.
He alleged, "There have been consistent reports of ballot box snatching from various centres, intimidation with weapons, entry through back gates, and half an hour of stamping ballots."
Fuaad also questioned the vote count, alleging that the number of votes cast in the election appeared unusually high compared to the referendum, suggesting possible ballot stuffing.
He further claimed that voting secrecy was not maintained at several polling stations. "In some centres there were no curtains, and in others voters were compelled to cast their ballots openly," he alleged.
Fuaad said his party will remain active on the streets and continue to criticise the government.
