Jamaat's top leaders Porwar, Hamidur face defeat in Khulna-5, Cox's Bazar-2
In Khulna-5, BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asghar Lobby secured victory with 148,854 votes, defeating Porwar, who received 146,246 votes.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad have been defeated in separate constituencies, according to final results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In Khulna-5, BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asghar Lobby secured victory with 148,854 votes, defeating Porwar, who received 146,246 votes.
Earlier preliminary results from 56 centres had shown a close contest between the two candidates.
In Cox's Bazar-2, Hamidur Rahman Azad lost to BNP candidate Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuj Ullah Farid. Farid won the seat with 125,543 votes, while Azad secured 91,889 votes.
The defeats mark significant losses for Jamaat, as both Porwar and Azad are among the party's senior leaders.
Porwar previously served as the Member of Parliament for Khulna-5 from 2001 to 2006, while Hamidur represented the Cox's Bazar-2 constituency between 2008 and 2014.
