Jamaat to skip all oaths if BNP refuses to join Costitutional Reform Council, says Taher
"If the BNP does not take the oath of the Constitutional Reform Council, then the reform aspirations that emerged after the uprising will be hindered," said Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.
Newly elected MPs of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not take any oath if BNP lawmakers decline to be sworn in as members of the Constitutional Reform Council, the party's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said this morning (17 February).
Taher said the swearing-in for their newly elected MPs is scheduled for 12pm, and they will attend.
"If the BNP does not take the oath of the Constitutional Reform Council, then the reform aspirations that emerged after the uprising will be hindered. We are committed to upholding the spirit of July. If they do not take the oath in the Constitutional Reform Council, no Jamaat MP will take the oath as a Member of Parliament. This is our decision so far," said Taher.
Meanwhile, Jamaat leader Nazibur Rahman, a newly elected MP, said, "The 11-party alliance will take the decision regarding oath taking after discussion."
Elected MPs of the BNP took oath at the Oath Room of the Jatiya Sangsad around 10:30am today. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath.
