Islami Front accuses rivals of violence, threats before national polls
Party General Secretary SUM Abdus Samad alleged that some individuals, posing as BNP and Jamaat members, issued post-election threats, undermining the electoral environment and criticized law enforcement for inaction
Bangladesh Islami Front General Secretary SUM Abdus Samad alleged that candidates, agents and workers of the party and the Greater Sunni Alliance have faced attacks, blank-firing and torching of campaign offices, claiming rivals resorted to violence out of fear of their growing public support.
At a press conference held today (11 February) at the party office in Cheragi Pahar, Chattogram, he said that with around 16 hours to go before the 13th national election, the vote is crucial for democracy, good governance, and a corruption-free Bangladesh.
He cited incidents in six Chattogram constituencies, including attacks on Chattogram-07 candidate Advocate Iqbal Hasan and repeated threats against Chattogram-06 candidate Maulana Ilyas Nuri.
In Chattogram-14, candidate Maulana Solaiman Faruki faced monetary inducements and threats, with similar cases in Anwara and Karnafuli, he added.
He alleged that some individuals, posing as BNP and Jamaat members, issued post-election threats, undermining the electoral environment and criticized law enforcement for inaction.
