Corrupt individuals spread fear over Islam, says Charmonai Pir
He says Islamic governance would prevent corruption and ensure equality and justice
Corrupt officials, extortionists, and terrorists spread fear about Islam because Islamic governance would prevent them from committing crimes, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, said today (3 February).
Speaking at an election rally near the WASA building in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar area, he said it is natural for a country with a Muslim majority to be governed according to Islamic principles.
He claimed that people had lived in peace under Islamic rule and said non-Muslims in Charmonai live "as safely as in a mother's lap".
Calling on voters to support his party's hand fan symbol, he urged them to break free from what he described as 54 years of failure.
The Charmonai Pir further alleged that corruption, killings and enforced disappearances had become widespread since independence and warned that Bangladesh's fate would not change unless the opportunity created by the July Uprising was used to establish Islamic governance.
