11-party alliance satisfied with polls despite some isolated irregularities: Jamaat's Zubair
"We believe all parties made efforts to ensure a proper election," he said.
The 11-party alliance led by the Jamaat-e-Islami has said the election was participatory and peaceful despite some isolated irregularities in different areas.
"Overall the alliance expressed satisfaction with the electoral process," said the party's Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair at an emergency press conference at Jamaat's central office in Moghbazar today (12 February). Top leaders of the 11-party alliance were also present at the briefing.
Zubair said that the election reflected the fulfilment of the people's national aspirations. For this, he congratulated the government, the Election Commission, and the people of the country.
"We believe all parties made efforts to ensure a proper election. As a result, there were no major incidents reported. However, some isolated events took place," he added.
Zubair said that postal ballots, referendum votes, and parliamentary ballots would be counted simultaneously. "We will now monitor the vote-counting process," he added.
He also alleged that in some polling centers their agents were barred from entering and were even assaulted. "We immediately informed the administration and the Election Commission," he added.
He also claimed that various forms of "media trial" were undermined by the people's active participation in the election. Zubair expressed hope that results would be available by the night and congratulated the nation.
"Compared to past elections, this one was better, which has given hope to the nation. We expect there will be no irregularities, disruptions, or deviations in the vote counting," he said.
