Candidacy of NCP’s Monira Sharmin rejected
A total of 13 candidates from the Jamaat alliance submitted nomination papers for the reserved women’s seats of the 13th Parliament
The nomination paper of Jamaat alliance candidate and NCP Joint Convener Monira Sharmin has been rejected during scrutiny as three years have not passed since she resigned from her government bank job.
The decision was taken today (23 April) following the scrutiny of nomination papers for the reserved women's seats of the 13th Parliament by Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Md Moin Uddin Khan.
He said, "Monira Sharmin's nomination paper has been rejected as three years have not passed since she left government service."
Assistant Returning Officer and EC Deputy Secretary Monir Hossain said, "There is an opportunity to appeal against the returning officer's decision to the Election Commission. The seat will be opened to all parties and alliances after it becomes vacant."
A total of 13 candidates from the Jamaat alliance submitted nomination papers for the reserved women's seats of the 13th Parliament.
During scrutiny yesterday (22 April), 12 nomination papers were declared valid, while a decision regarding one was made this afternoon.
