Iran, US trade competing claims over strikes near Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday it had launched ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and a Navy destroyer near the Strait of Hormuz, claiming both vessels were damaged and had withdrawn from the area.
Tehran said the strikes were in response to what it described as US harassment of Iranian vessels and American involvement in a maritime blockade, says Arab Times.
The IRGC Navy separately said it had attacked a remotely operated US military vessel that was attempting to enter a protected zone. It also reported targeting three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three US-linked ships elsewhere.

The IRGC said the waterway remained under Iranian control and warned against further US military activity in the area.
