Tripura HC disposes PIL seeking action on cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh, Myanmar
Tripura had yet to implement the four-stage framework recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs - detection, adjudication, detention, and deportation

The Tripura High Court has declined to issue immediate directives in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the alleged increase in illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar, calling the petition "premature" and advising the petitioners to allow more time for the state government to act.
According to a report by North East Now, the PIL was filed by Bijay Debbarma of the Joint Action Committee and student leader John Debbarma representing the Twipra Students Federation (TSF). The matter was heard by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Biswajit Palit.
Senior Advocate Manish Goswami, representing the petitioners, argued that despite growing concerns over cross-border migration, Tripura had yet to implement the four-stage framework recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs - detection, adjudication, detention, and deportation.
Goswami further pointed out that only Assam had established the required infrastructure to manage foreign nationals, including foreigner tribunals and detention centres, while Tripura still lacked such systems.
The petitioners had submitted a formal representation to the state government on 24 June, urging urgent action to address the issue.
Although the bench acknowledged the seriousness of the concerns, it disposed of the PIL with the observation that the matter should be revisited at a later stage if no action is taken.
The court said the petitioners would be at liberty to approach the bench again "should no steps be taken by the authorities within a reasonable period."
