IndiGo cancels over 400 flights amid pilot rostering issues
The cancellations followed over 1,000 flight disruptions on Friday, a day after the airline received temporary relief from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding the second phase of new flight duty and rest period (FDRP) norms for cockpit crew
IndiGo Airlines cancelled more than 400 flights on Saturday, 6 December, 2025, across four major Indian airports due to disruptions linked to pilot rostering, the carrier said.
The cancellations followed over 1,000 flight disruptions on Friday, a day after the airline received temporary relief from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding the second phase of new flight duty and rest period (FDRP) norms for cockpit crew, says The Hindu.
The Saturday cancellations included 124 flights at Bengaluru airport, 109 at Mumbai, 106 at Delhi, and 66 at Hyderabad.
The DGCA granted IndiGo temporary relief on Friday, including a rollback of the night duty definition to 12 am-5 am from 12 am-6 am, and permission for pilots to perform six night landings instead of two.
IndiGo, partially owned by Rahul Bhatia, had opposed the new FDRP norms since their introduction in January 2024. The initial implementation of the rules had been scheduled for March 2024.
In a video message on Friday, CEO Pieter Elbers apologized for the disruption, referring to it as a "grave crisis" and stating the airline anticipated fewer than 1,000 cancelled flights on Saturday.
The airline resumed nine of its 11 flights from Jammu Airport, while cancelling seven departing and arriving flights from Srinagar International Airport, where 36 flights were scheduled for the day.
IndiGo did not provide a full timetable for when normal operations would resume.
