Air India has suspended services to Dhaka and four other international destinations and reduced flight frequencies on several global routes until August, citing ongoing airspace restrictions and record-high jet fuel prices that are affecting operational viability.
In a press release issued yesterday (13 May), the airline said the adjustments were aimed at improving network stability and minimising last-minute disruptions for passengers.
Despite the reductions, Air India said it will continue operating more than 1,200 international flights every month across five continents.
Under the revised schedule, several routes will see reduced frequencies, while some services will remain temporarily suspended through August.
Among South Asian routes, the airline said the Mumbai-Dhaka service will remain suspended until August, while Delhi-Dhaka flights will be reduced from seven weekly services to four.
The airline will also reduce Delhi-Kathmandu services from 42 weekly flights to 28 in June and further to 21 weekly flights in July and August.
Other major cuts include the temporary suspension of Delhi-Shanghai, Chennai-Singapore and Delhi-Male routes.
In Southeast Asia, Delhi-Singapore flights will be reduced from 24 weekly services to 14, while Mumbai-Singapore flights will drop from 14 to seven weekly operations.
For North American destinations, Air India announced the temporary suspension of Delhi-Chicago services. Flights between Delhi and San Francisco will be reduced from 10 weekly services to seven, while Delhi-Toronto flights will be cut from 10 weekly operations to five through July before returning to daily services in August.
In Europe, the airline will halve Delhi-Paris services from 14 weekly flights to seven. Services to Copenhagen, Vienna, Zurich and Rome will also see reduced frequencies.
Flights to Australia will also be affected, with Delhi-Melbourne and Delhi-Sydney services reduced from seven weekly flights to four.
Air India said affected passengers will be offered alternative flight options, free date changes or full refunds where applicable.
The airline added that it continues to work with regulators, airport authorities and industry partners to restore full capacity as soon as conditions improve, although further adjustments may be made if operational challenges persist.
The Air India Group, owned by Tata Sons, currently operates more than 300 aircraft and serves 60 domestic and 51 international destinations.
