US senators reach compromise after record government shutdown

Senators have reached a deal on the 40th day of the longest government shutdown in US history. A preliminary deal has been agreed to by a caucus of Republicans and Democrats in the Senate. However, the deal will only take effect after approval by the US House of Representatives and President Donald Trump.
