Metrorail accident: Systemic problems identified
A pedestrian died after a bearing pad on a metro rail in the capital fell off. Metro services were suspended after the accident on Sunday, October 26. The bearing pads are used to reduce vibrations while the train is running. The incident is reminiscent of an accident about 13 months ago. On September 18, 2024, a similar incident closed the metro from Agargaon to Motijheel for 11 hours. Since then, serious safety concerns have been raised about the design and maintenance of the metro rail system.
