French Passenger Develops Symptoms After MV Hondius Evacuation
A major hantavirus outbreak aboard the Dutch cruise ship MV Hondius triggered an international emergency response after the vessel arrived near Tenerife in the Canary Islands. French authorities imposed strict isolation measures after one repatriated passenger developed symptoms during a flight to Paris.
The outbreak involved the dangerous Andes strain, which can spread between humans. Three passengers died during the voyage, while multiple countries launched quarantine and repatriation operations as health officials monitored possible infections worldwide.
