Catastrophic Fire in Tai Po Leaves Dozens Dead, Hundreds Missing
A massive fire has ripped through the 32-storey Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, killing at least 44 people and leaving 279 missing. Firefighters battled for hours as thick smoke and extreme heat blocked access to upper floors. The blaze, believed to have started from bamboo scaffolding, spread rapidly across multiple buildings, causing widespread panic and major traffic disruption. Highways were shut down, six schools closed, and emergency response teams were deployed across the city. With the death toll surpassing the 1996 Kowloon fire, this has become the deadliest blaze in Hong Kong's history.
