After a two-year hiatus, the country's largest carnival of tech devices is set to kick off on 6 January with the surprise of 5G service.

The three-day "Smartphone and Tab Expo-2022" will take place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital's Agargaon.

Visitors will get free access to the expo from 10 am to 8 pm every day after getting their body temperature checked upon arrival. They will also have to wear masks.

Posts and Telecommunication Minister Md Mustafa Jabbar will inaugurate the event on Thursday at 4 pm, said Muhammad Khan, chief executive officer (CEO) at Maker Communication that organises the expo, at a press briefing at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on Sunday.

Visitors will get a chance at the hands-on experience of innovations of the latest smartphones and tabs at the expo, while smartphones of renowned brands will be available at the expo with attractive prices and gift items, said the organisers.

Fazlul Musawir Choudhury, head of product planning at Samsung Mobile, said that there will be attractive gifts for visitors and special offers for students.

"Samsung will launch the year's first product at the expo," he said

Md Asaduzzaman, head of marketing at Transsion Bangladesh, said they will give some lucrative offers for their customers at the expo.

Md Abu Hasa Masud, assistant manager at state-owned Teletalk, said visitors will be able to experience the most modern connectivity, for the first time, at the "5G Experience Zone" facilitated by mobile operator Teletalk and with the technical support of Huawei Technologies Bangladesh.

Besides, a couple of dedicated stalls will be available for displaying the accessories and gadgets related to smartphones.

Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Tecno and DX Tel will sponsor the fair, while Huawei and E-Curiear will provide technological and logistic support to the mega event, respectively.

Among others, Oppo Bangladesh head of marketing Liu Feng, Viva Bangladesh brand manager Tanzib Ahamed, Realme Bangladesh head of sales Muzahidul Islam, DX Group head of retail operations M Hasan Saif, and Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited head of public affairs and communications Yuying spoke at the press meet.
