Tamim hits consecutive tons

Tamim Iqbal registered his second consecutive century in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), leading Mohammedan Sporting Club to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Brothers Union. Meanwhile, Legends of Rupganj maintained their position at the top of the points table with a comfortable win over Prime Bank Cricket Club.

Tamim Iqbal once again demonstrated his class with the bat, scoring a superb century to steer Mohammedan to a commanding nine-wicket win over Brothers Union. Batting first at BKSP Ground No. 3 in Savar, Brothers Union were dismissed for 187 runs in 48.4 overs. In response, Mohammedan chased down the target in just 32.2 overs.

After losing the toss, Brothers Union struggled to build a solid foundation. Imtiaz Hossain top-scored with 43 off 59 balls, hitting seven boundaries, while Aich Mollah contributed 32 runs from 55 deliveries. However, their efforts were insufficient against a disciplined Mohammedan bowling attack. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 for 31 in his 10 overs, while Abu Hider chipped in with three wickets.

In pursuit of 188, Mohammedan suffered an early setback when Mehidy Hasan Miraz departed for just 2 runs. However, Tamim, alongside Mahidul Islam, ensured there were no further hiccups. The experienced left-hander remained unbeaten on 105 off 96 balls, smashing nine fours and four sixes. Mahidul played a solid supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 71 from 95 balls as Mohammedan secured victory with ease.

Rupganj keep top spot

After setting a record team total in their previous match, Prime Bank Cricket Club faltered in their latest encounter, being bowled out for just 152 runs against Legends of Rupganj. The latter eased to an eight-wicket victory, chasing down the target with 160 balls to spare.

Batting first at BKSP Ground No. 4, Prime Bank found themselves in early trouble as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Opener Mohammad Naim held one end with a determined 81 off 83 balls, but his teammates failed to provide adequate support. Shahadat Hossain was the second-highest scorer with 20 off 18 deliveries. Saif Hassan led the Rupganj bowling attack, claiming 4 for 37 in his 10 overs, while Tanzim Hasan picked up three wickets.

In response, Rupganj lost opener Saif Hassan for 16 runs off 35 balls. However, Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar ensured a comfortable chase. Tanzid smashed 68 off 49 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes before departing. Soumya remained unbeaten on 50 from 40 balls, guiding his team to victory.

With this result, Rupganj, Abahani Limited, and Mohammedan Sporting Club now all have six points from four matches. However, Rupganj retain the top spot courtesy of a superior net run rate, with Abahani in second and Mohammedan in third.
