HC dismisses writ challenging legality of BCB ad-hoc committee
Petitioners say they would file an appeal with the Appellate Division against the High Court verdict
The High Court (HC) has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the 11-member ad-hoc committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The bench of Justice Razik Al Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury passed the order today (11 May).
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal represented the state, while Mahin M Rahman appeared for the BCB. The writ petitioner was represented by Advocate Golam Kibria.
Following the order, Golam Kibria said they would file an appeal with the Appellate Division against the High Court verdict.
The writ was filed on 30 April, seeking a directive to declare the ad-hoc committee illegal. Seven Supreme Court lawyers, including Golam Kibria, jointly submitted the petition.
Earlier, on 7 April, National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous committee of the BCB and formed an 11-member ad-hoc body, naming former national captain Tamim Iqbal as its president.
The move follows an investigation by the NSC into the BCB elections held on 6 October last year, which found several irregularities.
The NSC has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) about both the investigation report and the formation of the ad-hoc body.
The committee comprises Tamim Iqbal, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khosru, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Athar Ali Khan, Tanvir Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam Babu and Fahim Sinha.
