Sylhet's disappointing BPL campaign ends as Chittagong cruise into playoffs

ChittagongKings booked their place in the playoffs with a commanding 96-run victory over Sylhet Strikers, who ended their BPL campaign with another disappointing performance.

Sylhet, who managed just two wins in 12 group-stage matches, failed to put up a fight in their final game as they were bowled out for just 100 runs in response to Chattogram's 196/8.

Chasing a steep target, Sylhet never found any rhythm as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Jawad Abrar fell for just 2, while Zakir Hasan and Rony Talukdar made 19 and 17, respectively, but neither could anchor the innings.

Aaron Jones, expected to provide stability, managed only 3 off 7 balls before departing. The middle and lower order failed to resist Chattogram's relentless attack, with Nahidul Islam (14), Jaker Ali (17), Ariful Haque (11), and Ruyel Miah (0) all falling cheaply. Tanzim Sakib was dismissed without scoring, and Sumon Khan's run-out for 2 in the 16th over sealed Sylhet's miserable outing as they were all out for 100.

Chattogram's bowling attack was spearheaded by Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed, both of whom claimed four wickets each, while Rahatul Ferdous picked up one. The final wicket came via a run-out.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Chattogram's innings had an unsteady start as Parvez Hossain Emon (1) and Graham Clark (1) fell cheaply to Tanzim Sakib. However, Khawaja Nafi and Mohammad Mithun steadied the innings, putting together a crucial stand. Both batters reached their half-centuries, with Nafi scoring 52 off 30 balls and Mithun matching that tally off 38 deliveries.

Despite their departure, Chittagongkept the momentum going. Haider Ali, who had delivered match-winning heroics in the previous game, could only manage 9, while Rahatul Ferdous contributed 4. However, Shamim Hossain Patwari and Khaled Ahmed ensured a strong finish. Shamim struck 38 off 23 balls before being caught near the boundary in the final over, while Khaled's unbeaten 25 off 13 helped Chittagongreach 196/8.

For Sylhet, Tanzim Sakib took three wickets, while Samiullah Shinwari and Ruyel Miah claimed two each. Sumon Khan chipped in with one wicket.

With this emphatic victory, ChittagongKings became the third team to qualify for the playoffs, while Sylhet Strikers bowed out with a dismal record.
