The super four equation: What Bangladesh need to qualify
If Sri Lanka win their final group game, Bangladesh will qualify for the Super Four without any concern over net run rate. Bangladesh will also advance if the match is abandoned.
By defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh ended the first round with four points from three matches. They have now moved above Afghanistan into second place in the points table. Sri Lanka, who won both of their first two matches, also have four points but are well ahead of Bangladesh on net run rate. Sri Lanka's net run rate stands at +1.546, while Bangladesh are on -0.270. Afghanistan, despite their defeat, still hold a superior net run rate of +2.150.
If Sri Lanka win their final group game, Bangladesh will qualify for the Super Four without any concern over net run rate. Bangladesh will also advance if the match is abandoned.
However, if Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka, Nabi and Rashid's side will progress as group champions. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka would then be separated by net run rate, where Sri Lanka currently have the upper hand. For example, if Afghanistan score 200 batting first, Sri Lanka would only need to reach 128 in the chase to qualify. If Afghanistan post 150, Sri Lanka would qualify even with a total of just 84.
If Sri Lanka bat first, Afghanistan would need to win inside 11 to 12 overs for Bangladesh to make it to the Super Four.
