ICC reviewing accreditation requests of Bangladeshi journalists
“There is a reworking of the process since there has been a change in the number of requests and schedules. The accreditation lists are being adjusted accordingly,” ICC sources say.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reworking its media accreditation process for Bangladeshi journalists seeking to cover the T20 World Cup in India, following Bangladesh's decision to withdraw its national team from the tournament over security concerns.
According to a PTI report citing ICC sources, the world cricket governing body is revising the application process after several Bangladeshi journalists claimed their accreditation requests had initially been rejected.
"There is a reworking of the process since there has been a change in the number of requests and schedules. The accreditation lists are being adjusted accordingly," ICC sources said.
The sources also said that some Bangladeshi journalists who expressed interest in covering the tournament despite their team's withdrawal have already started receiving approval confirmations.
Around 80 to 90 Bangladeshi journalists applied for media accreditation for the event. However, sources said that even if Bangladesh were participating in the tournament, it would not have been possible to accommodate all applications.
"If you go by the country quota, the number cannot exceed 40. The ICC considers recommendations from the host board and then takes a decision on the applications," the source added.
