Hridoy's suspension extended to four matches
Tawhid Hridoy has been banned for four matches following his altercation with the umpire during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match.

Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Tawhid Hridoy has seen his one-match ban increased to four after his confrontation with the umpire during the DPL match between Abahani Limited and Mohammedan. Hridoy had previously criticised the umpires in the media after the incident, leading to an extension of his punishment.
The match, held on 12 April 2025 in Mirpur, took a dramatic turn when Mohammedan's bowler, Ebadot Hossain, made a strong LBW appeal against Abahani's Mohammad Mithun in the 7th over. The appeal was rejected by on-field umpire Tanveer Ahmed, which sparked an intense reaction from Hridoy. During the heated exchange, Hridoy engaged in a verbal confrontation with leg umpire Sharafudoula Ibn Shaheed Saikat.
Following the argument, Hridoy was handed a one-match ban and 4 demerit points by match referee Niamur Rashid Rahul. However, the situation escalated when Hridoy continued to voice his frustration in the media after the match. He was quoted as saying, "You are an international umpire, and we are international cricketers," before threatening, "If things go another way, I will speak, Insha'Allah."
According to the ICC's code of conduct, comments made after a match that are deemed inappropriate or disrespectful fall under Level 2, Clause 2.8. As per the rules, the match referee had 36 hours to submit a second report. In his second report, Niamur Rashid described Hridoy's comments as "inappropriate, offensive, and disrespectful to the umpires," resulting in an additional 4 demerit points and an extension of his suspension to four matches.
Hridoy's suspension comes at a critical time for Mohammedan, as they have recently secured a significant win over Abahani, bringing them closer to the title. Since Tamim Iqbal's heart attack, Hridoy has taken charge of the team, and his absence for four matches will undoubtedly be a major setback for Mohammedan's title aspirations.
