Tabith Awal, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), recently met with England-based footballer Hamza Choudhury during a trip to the UK.

The meeting, which took place on 15 January at Leicester City's King Power Stadium, marks a significant step towards Hamza's long-awaited debut for Bangladesh.

A photo of their meeting was shared on the BFF's official Facebook page, with a caption noting that the meeting was part of efforts to build a strong relationship with Hamza.

The midfielder, who has represented England at youth levels, received formal approval from FIFA to switch his football allegiance to Bangladesh in December 2024.

After obtaining a Bangladesh passport and gaining clearance from the Football Association (FA) in September, Hamza is now poised to play for the national team.

His anticipated debut is set for 25 March 2025 during the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, where Bangladesh will face India.

During the visit, BFF president Awal, accompanied by BFF Executive Member Imtiaz Hamid Sabuj, spent time with Hamza and his family, watching Leicester City's match against Crystal Palace.

Hamza, 27, has spent several seasons at Leicester City, with previous loan stints at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Reports suggest that Hamza is likely to leave Leicester in the winter transfer window, with Sheffield United, a Championship club, reportedly keen to secure his services. Once the deal is finalised, Hamza is expected to inform the BFF of his updated schedule.

If the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) approves, the AFC Asian Cup qualifier match between Bangladesh and India could take place in Shillong, India.

Hamza's debut for Bangladesh could occur in this historic fixture.
