Having lost their first three matches, today's game was a do-or-die battle for the girls. Bangladesh started strong, leading 25–18 in the first half. Sri Lanka fought back in the second half, and the contest became neck and neck. Despite the second half ending 22–22, Bangladesh celebrated victory with a seven-point overall lead across both halves.
The main phase of the Youth Asian Games will begin tomorrow, while the kabaddi competition started earlier on 19 October. Around 4,000 athletes from 45 countries are taking part in this year's edition.
In the first Youth Asian Games held in Singapore in 2009, Bangladesh participated in four sports with a total of 12 athletes. In the last edition, hosted by Nanjing, China, in 2013, Bangladesh had 19 athletes competing in eight sports. This year, both the number of sports and athletes have increased significantly — 60 athletes from Bangladesh are competing across 13 disciplines.
