Bangladesh face 294 chase to avoid whitewash
Afghanistan’s opening pair Zadran and Gurbaz built a solid 99-run stand.
Afghanistan got off to a flying start thanks to Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Although they stumbled in the middle overs, Hashmatullah Shahidi's men still managed to post a challenging total of 293 in the series-deciding one-dayer — leaving Bangladesh needing 294 to win the match and the series.
In the 44th over, off the fourth ball, Rashid Khan was caught by Towhid Hridoy, marking Afghanistan's seventh wicket at 221. From that point, veteran Mohammad Nabi counterattacked brilliantly, guiding Afghanistan close to 300 with an unbeaten 62 off just 37 balls, featuring 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Afghanistan's opening pair Zadran and Gurbaz built a solid 99-run stand. Gurbaz was dismissed for 42 by Tanvir Islam, breaking the opening partnership. Zadran then added another 74 runs with Sediqullah Atal for the second wicket before Atal departed for 29 off 47 balls, taking the team total to 173. However, what followed was a middle-order collapse for the Afghans before Nabi's late flourish revived their innings.
