Abahani slip up as Mohammedan crowned champions after 22 years

Mohammedan Sporting Club have won their first Bangladesh Premier League title, and their first top-tier domestic crown since 2002, after Abahani suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fortis FC in Cumilla on 17 May.

Abahani remain on 28 points from 15 matches. Even if they win all three of their remaining games and Mohammedan lose the rest, Abahani cannot match Mohammedan's total of 38 points.
The match in Cumilla was briefly halted in the first half due to lightning. Fortis took the lead before half-time and, despite being reduced to ten men in the second half, managed to double their advantage.
Abahani pulled one goal back but could not avoid defeat, with the match ending 2-1. As the referee blew for full time, jubilation erupted among the Mohammedan faithful.
