True Detective duo reunite for Mike Hammer film
Matthew McConaughey is set to reunite with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto for a film adaptation of the iconic private investigator Mike Hammer. The project, currently in development at Skydance, will mark the duo's first major collaboration since the critically acclaimed first season of HBO's True Detective in 2014.
McConaughey is in talks to play the lead role, with Pizzolatto attached as screenwriter for the film, based on the bestselling crime novels by Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins. Skydance has secured rights to the Mike Hammer franchise and is developing the adaptation as a high-profile crime thriller.
The film will be produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance, alongside Guymon Casady of Entertainment 360. Additional producers include Benjamin Forkner and Ken F Levin, with Collins serving as executive producer and Jane Spillane as co-producer.
McConaughey recently returned to acting after a six-year hiatus with The Rivals of Amziah King, and will next appear in Apple TV+'s The Lost Bus. Pizzolatto, meanwhile, continues to expand his creative reach with multiple film and TV projects in development.
