Trailer for Redoan Rony’s Eid release ‘Domm’ unveils hostage drama

The official trailer for the upcoming action-drama Domm was unveiled at a launch event on Tuesday afternoon, offering audiences a detailed look at a tense hostage situation based on true events. Directed by Redoan Rony, the film is set for a wide theatrical release this Eid-ul-Fitr.

Following a teaser that previously generated significant online discussion, the nearly two-minute trailer centres on Shahjahan Islam Noor, a Bangladeshi citizen taken captive by an extremist group. The footage outlines a clear ultimatum: the militants threaten to execute Noor within two days unless their arrested leader, Baharuddin, is released.

Narrated by Afran Nisho, whose voiceover reflects on the physical struggle for survival, the clip displays sequences of severe torture inflicted on the protagonist, contrasted with scenes of his anxious family waiting at home. The trailer also features a prominent appearance by Chanchal Chowdhury.

The project marks Rony's return to feature filmmaking after a decade-long hiatus and brings Nisho and Chowdhury together on the big screen for the first time. Co-produced by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment Limited and Chorki, the ensemble cast includes Puja Cherry and Dolly Zahur.

The screenplay was collaboratively developed by Rony, Rabiul Alam Robi, Syed Ahmed Shawki, Al-Amin Hasan Nirjhor, and Md Saifullah Riyad. Production spanned three countries, including a rigorous shooting schedule in Kazakhstan at sub-zero temperatures.

In a notable musical addition, legendary singer Sabina Yasmin has recorded a new rendition of her classic track 'Ei Mon Tomake Dilam' for the soundtrack, marking a rare playback appearance after 44 years.

As previously confirmed, Dom recently secured an uncut 'U' (Universal) certificate from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, clearing the project for audiences of all ages ahead of the holiday box office window.

Last Monday, Bangladesh Film Certification Board (BFCB) cleared five local films for theatrical release during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival. Apart from Redoan Rony's highly anticipated hostage drama Domm, the approved titles include Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka, Bonolota Express, Pressure Cooker, and Rakkhosh.

Abu Hayat Mahmud's Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka, an underworld action drama starring Shakib Khan and Tasnia Farin, secured its clearance following a recent promotional launch. Also cleared was Raihan Rafi's Pressure Cooker, which received an uncut certificate. Breaking from traditional commercial formulas, the film focuses entirely on four female protagonists, featuring Shobnom Yesmin Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, Snigdha Chowdhury, and Mariya Hossain Mehnati.

Tanim Noor's Bonolota Express earned a 'U' (Universal) certificate, making it suitable for all age groups. The project boasts a large ensemble cast that includes Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Intekhab Dinar, and Azmeri Haque Badhan. Dom, marking Rony's return to feature filmmaking after a decade and starring Afran Nisho alongside Chanchal Chowdhury, also passed without cuts to secure a 'U' rating.

Meanwhile, Mehedi Hasan Hridoy's Rakkhosh was granted an 18+ rating by the board. Billed as an unconventional romance blended with family drama, the film stars Siam Ahmed alongside Kolkata-based actress Sushmita Chatterjee.

Industry insiders note that this year's Eid lineup reflects a growing shift in Bangladeshi cinema toward diverse genres and fresh storytelling, setting the stage for a highly competitive box office during the holiday period.
