Rock titans Foo Fighters complete new album at last
'Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl has confirmed that the band's next studio album is finished, while also strongly hinting at a return to Australia, following their one-off Tasmanian show over the weekend.
The U.S. rock band played a sold-out, near three-hour set on 24 January, marking their first performance in Tasmania in more than a decade and their only Australian date on the current visit.
During the show, Grohl told the crowd that the band had just finished a full new record, offering the first public confirmation that a follow-up to 2023's 'But Here We Are' is complete. He also reassured fans that Foo Fighters would be back in Australia sooner than expected, suggesting a return before his next birthday in January 2027, though no official tour dates have been announced.
The performance carried particular emotional significance, as it was one of the band's most prominent Australian appearances since the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. 'But Here We Are' went on to debut at number one in Australia and received widespread critical acclaim.
The Launceston show also featured a surprise appearance by Australian miner Brent Webb, who gained international attention in 2006 after requesting Foo Fighters songs while trapped underground. With a new album completed and a potential Australian return teased, the band's next chapter appears firmly underway.
